While actor Ron Perlman was already trending on Twitter after sparring with House members Matt Gaetz and Jim Jordan on Sunday night, Senator Ted Cruz threw his name into the fight. Jun 15, 2020 'Sons of Anarchy' actor Perlman and Gaetz, a Florida Republican, clashed on Saturday after President Trump reweeted a Thursday tweet from Gaetz shading the U.S. Soccer Federation's decision.
Two of the dumbest Republican politicians ever, and that's saying something, tried to take down Trump critic and renowned actor Ron Perlman on Twitter.
It backfired magnificently.
And the Senator from Texas inserted the odious Jim Jordan into the Twitter spat.
Jordan, you will recall, is a former wrestling coach at Ohio State who has been implicated by many witnesses in knowingly remaining silent while his wrestling students were being sexually assaulted. Ted Cruz thought it was smart to namedrop Jordan as his gladiator. Really.
The fight started after US Soccer lifted the ban on players kneeling during the national anthem.

Ron Perlman plays a lot of reactionary tough guys — perhaps most notably Clarence “Clay” Morrow on Sons of Anarchy — but in real life he’s an outspoken progressive. He’s often bragged about giving Harvey Weinstein a “pee handshake.” He also tweets a lot, mostly about politics, and he doesn’t mince words when talking about the current administration. So when he got some pushback from one of Trump’s biggest allies over social media, Perlman responded in kind.
It began Saturday night, when the former Hellboy called out Florida Representative Matt Gaetz — one of the president’s most loyal lapdogs, known for, among other oddities, cryptically threatening Michael Cohen, prompting much online mockery — for a tweet denouncing the U.S.’s wildly successful national soccer team, who famously had no interest in accepting congrats from a president they despised.
